The term "technoization" that I've been using lately applies almost as much to this cd as to the new Apoptgyma Berzerk sound. To me it seems Ronan is trying to lure in a new crowd / additional marketbase in which to increase their sales?. Not criticising his choice but this seems to be a trend especially with synthpop and ebm bands of late.

Ronan had remarked he did not want this cd sounding like Empires or Burning Empires. If that was his goal he has been very successful. He seems to have implented techo/trance quite effectively into all of the songs on the cd. Maybe he is just trying extremely hard to push this new genre label "futurepop" a little too far. I still personally like to consider EBM dancy music with slightly distorted vocals though. Most futurepop I have heard sounds like some crappy pepsi commercial.

The CD itself carries alot more mellow / thoughtful / propoganda ideas then any of his other CD's with songs such as Fearless, Carbon and Holding on to name a few. This in no way a deterent from their classic sound with songs like Epicentre and Beloved but allows room for the new sound they are trying hard to promote.

I have liked VNV Nation for sometime now, however I'm still debating this new sound of theirs. It still comes across as too much techno/trance to be considered industrial or at least is pushing its limits. I am positive this new direction wont hurt the band or their sales as they are well established and well sought after. It may however push off the fans of their first two cds, advance and follow (original) and Praise The Fallen. One I consider to be their strongest CD to date. All opinons aside its overall a good cd and definately worth the money.
