Lost Signal - Catharsis

Release Date: 2001
Genre: EBM
Similar Artist(s): Assemblage 23, Neuroticfish, VNV Nation
Members: Charles Rehill
Produced by Tom Shear of Assemblage 23

Yet another local label Inception release! This has been a much talked about, much anticapted cd. This would be Charle's first FULL studio album, Command EP being his self released ep which is no longer in circulation as his mother took his last copy!

Lost Signal for the newcomer has quite a more mellow approach to its music and vocals then most EBM bands. Long progressions and soothingly sad vocals. This definately fits the band name as Catharsis means to purify ones emotions through art or media. Charles seems to be relying more onon composition and melodies especially with his keyboard for his main sound. And melodic Vocals coming in right after. Its definately a different approach to music for a scene that is flooded with shitty synthiepop and abnoxious wanna be noise.

I really liked Torment, that came on Counterbalance, however I have yet to enjoyed a song as much as that one. It reminds me alot like that of a sad sad VNV song. Frozen stands out alot as I like the keyboardist style intro. Alot of the songs have a slow progression and no definate built up in rythym or beats. The beats themselves are quite constant and after listening to over and over become more of a background noise in your head as you concentrate on Charle's voice. Speaking of which he seems to have quite good control over and has produced very effectively for the cd.

You can definately see the power in a label that has such a diverse group of bands. Definately hard to pinpoint a particular sound or comparison to any of them. This cd will definately go well with the female unit of the population, however I cannot see it becomming a top 5 cd for most male listeners. Overall I'd give the cd an above average rating. Not that I dislike , just that I have heard much more to date that I like far better this year, Overall it is a good cd and definately wont be a waste of money.
