Theatre of Tragedy: Velvet Darkness They Fear

I cannot say enough about this album. This was most likely the album that expanded my horizons when it came to what I listened to, changed my view on what music was really all about and it was a gateway to discovering so many more great bands out there. This album is not just music, it’s an experience. If you happen to be spiritual in anyway, your soul will sing with this album, Weather Theatre of Tragedy intended to or not, the first 2 track combined make “velvet darkness they fear” sound like a battle between heaven and hell with Liv Kristine as the angel and Raymond’s vocals, like that of the fallen. “And When He Falleth” is probably the most interesting track which contains sounds clips from the 1964 movie “The Masque of the Red Death” starring Vincent Price.
The first song I had ever heard by Theatre of Tragedy would have to be “On Whom the Moon Doth Shine” and it was only part of it. This was right before my personal musical transition from mainstream to underground, and that was one of the seongs that helped the process.
Weather a fan of this type of music or not it is defiantly worth listening to. I have turned many people to Theatre of Tragedy who aren’t even fans of this type of music. I urge you to explore their music further.
