Wumpscut - Wreath of Barbs
Release Date: 2001 Well this cd is probably one of the more anticapted cds of 2001. Needless to say after hearing it you will see why. This cd goes back to directly after Eevil Young Flesh, (as Bloodchild was a release of his PRE anything stuff). It definately has a reminiscent sound of previous tracks from that cd. However he seems to have involved a new kind of production or mastering as the overall sound and quality come across much better then previous cds. From my understand this cd is dedicated to the topic of "Doctor of Death" books from germany, and about the holocust. Considering the track names like Mankinds Disease, Hate is Mine and Bleed in Silence we can see this evident. The overall sound of the cd seems to have mellowed greatly compared to previous Wumpscut work. The Opening track is quite mellow and vocals dont pick up till quite a ways into it. By the title track "Wreath of Barbs" it becomes quite a bit more catchy. However it is still fairly mellow with heavy use of the vocoder. There is a female vocalist who is on the cd too, possibly the same as from Eevil Young Flesh, however I do not know as it is strictly a promo cd. She is on 3 tracks that come across to me more as reading lines to music then to songs. Not particularily sure if I like them, however they could grow on me quite quickly as stuff I usually dislike or hate at first listen grows on me after a few weeks/months. I'd have to say my favorite three tracks on the cd are Wreath of Barbs, Christfuck and Bleed In Silence. I am a bit disappointed that there is nothing heavier on the cd at least not compared to previous hits of his. None the less the CD is overall satisfying and definately a decent buy. Assuming the fact that 2 songs on the promo are "album mix" I'll be looking forward to hearing a remix cd ep of those songs plus whatever else he throws on it.
